No, the RPO was not in the UK entertaining the Queen of England but they sure brought entertainment to Rochester this weekend with the songs of UK's classic rock group Queen! As billed in the promotions for RPO's Summer Series at CMAC Canandaigua ... Music of Queen - A Rock and Symphonic Spectacular, indeed it was spectacular.
On a beautiful night in the lovely & enchanting Canadaiqua's CMAC Performing Arts Center, tickets holders were treated to great entertainment. Vocals, rock guitar/drums/keyboard and symphonies from our own RPO playing tribute to greatest, and there are many, of Queen's songs. The beginning of the night may have had some sound mix problems however it got better & the second half had the whole audience moving with the songs. The classic song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' was outstanding and at the end of show a wild all-standing chorus of applause from the audience brought a spectacular encore.
What a wonderful evening of entertainment and a great family event as well, since children under 12 were free with lawn tickets. CMAC with its unique design as well as large screen has great views and the sound carries very well. PLEASE RPO let's bring The Music of Queen back next year and continue the diversity & excellence in your Summer Season programing!

"Last Saturday, 'THE MUSIC OF QUEEN - A ROCK AND SYMPHONIC SPECTACULAR,' rolled into town with a touring company from the UK led by guest conductor Richard Sidwell. This show, on the schedule for months in advance, was scheduled to run for only one performance, 8:00. A sell out occurred quickly and the DPO added a second performance for 3:00 to fill the popular demand.
"Including the DPO, over 70 musicians were on stage for this spectacular; four vocalists (from the West End Hit Musical WE WILL ROCK YOU) lead the audience through 2 acts of the 27 song set list. They more than do Sidwell's arrangements justice. Vocally stellar, they keep the energy in high gear from the first belted note to the encore.
"The band was tight and in top form. Impeccable and talented, this ensemble cast really gave every sold out seat its money's worth."
